Partners meeting of the project EstRusFortTour-2 was held
On the 13th of January 2014 the fourth meeting of the Russian and Estonian partners of the project «Unique Estonian-Russian fortresses ensemble development as a single tourist product, stage 2″ was held. The project is being implemented within the framework of Estonia-Latvia-Russia cross border cooperation Programme within European Neighbourhood and Partnership instrument 2007-2013.
The project partners are: from Estonia – Narva Department for City Development and Economy (Lead Partner) and Narva Museum, from Russia – Administration of the Municipal Formation “City Ivangorod Kingisepp Municipal District Leningrad oblast”.
Peeter Tambu, the Chief Architect of the city of Narva, Madis Tuuder, an expert on the protection of architectural monuments also took part in the project partners meeting. During the meeting the participants visited construction sites in Narva and Ivangorod. In Narva participants got acquainted with the territory of Castle Park and noted an interesting design of small architectural forms, a variety of lighting and first appeared in Narva “Dog station” – specially equipped dustbins with packages for cleaning up after pets waste. In Ivangorod they examined stair descent and ascent, then they took the footpath up to the observation deck overlooking fortress ensemble. Completion of project works is scheduled in April 2014, and the grand opening of the renewed infrastructure is planned for May 31 – June 1, 2014.
At the meeting, the partners were also informed that the program “Estonia -Latvia- Russia” approved one more associated partner of the project – The Foundation “Narva Museum”. The participants summed up the achieved results and worked out further plans for the next period of the project.
The overarching strategic objective of the Estonia-Latvia-Russia cross border cooperation Programme within European Neighbourhood and Partnership instrument 2007-2013 is to promote joint development activities for the improvement of the region’s competitiveness by utilising its potential and beneficial location in the cross roads between the EU and Russian Federation. The specific objective is to make the wider border area an attractive place for both its inhabitants and businesses through activities aimed at improving the living standards and investment climate.
